Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic from director Antoine Fuqua, is now in theaters. If you’re not planning on making the trip for whatever reason, here’s what you need to know about when and where to watch Michael streaming.
The film does not cover Jackson’s whole life and legacy. It basically tracks him from his early days with the Jackson Five to the Bad Tour in 1988, when he officially split from the family. (Hence the title. Get it?) Michael stars former Jackson Five member Jermaine Jackson’s son Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson. Coleman Domingo plays the pater familias Joseph. Filling out the family are actors Nia Long, Jamal R. Henderson, Tre Horton, Rhyan Hill, Joseph David-Jones, and Jessica Sula. Other cast include Laura Harrier, Kendrick Sampson, Miles Teller, and Mike Myers as various producers, lawyers, and important figures in the band’s life.
How can I watch Michael now?
Fuqua’s film was officially released in theaters on April 24, 2026.
Where will Michael be streaming?
The film is distributed by Lionsgate, which does not have a dedicated streaming service. The Hunger Games, one of the biggest Lionsgate franchises, is currently on Hulu and AMC+ and Lionsgate’s Saw movies are on Netflix. But thanks to a recent-ish deal, according to Forbes, the film will end up on Amazon’s Prime Video.
When will Michael be streaming?
Forbes reported that the film would hit Prime Video this summer. That’s about par for the course these days. It usually takes about three to four months from a film’s cinematic release to its eventual streaming drop. In between that time, about a month after it comes out in theaters, you should be able to rent Michael on PVOD as well.
What to watch/do while you wait:
You could watch a movie that the real Jackson is in, like The Wiz, or the music documentary directed by Kenny Ortega This Is It. Maybe watch another music biopic in the meantime? One of my favorites from the last decade or so is Rocket Man, which starred Taron Egerton as Elton John. I also really liked One Love, with Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley.
This is not a biopic, because it’s actually based on a stage play, but the upcoming Amadeus series about the maybe imagined feud between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri starring Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany has some similar themes. Mozart and Michael are obviously very different child prodigies, historically, but child prodigies none the less. That series is coming to Starz on May 8, 2026.
Or, if you’d rather just listen to music to prepare, the fact that Michael only covers a certain period of the King of Pop’s career helps. The bookmarks mark themselves!
